About the position

The Mechanical Engineer Summer Intern position at Smith Equipment offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in engineering through real-world projects and innovative research. Interns will engage in various engineering disciplines, contribute to cost-saving initiatives, and develop critical problem-solving skills while working in a dynamic team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in day-to-day operations and engineering projects.
  • Contribute ideas that lead to cost savings and new revenue opportunities.
  • Explore specific engineering disciplines such as power, control, communication, packaging, magnetics, and thermal.
  • Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills relevant to engineering.
  • Familiarize with industry standards, procedures, and practices.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Engineering University or Technical program, having completed at least the Sophomore year.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to connect with others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prior experience as a Mechanical Engineering intern and skills in Solidworks software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest in areas such as FEA, CFD, sheet metal, plastics, castings, heat transfer, magnetics, generators, IC engines, or electronics packaging.
