About the position

Meta is seeking a mechanical engineering intern to join its Hardware Engineering team. The role involves working on innovative mechanical designs and hardware architectures that contribute to the development of energy and material-efficient data center equipment. The intern will collaborate with various engineering design teams to help design, qualify, and optimize hardware for Meta's infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Help with design of Meta's next generation Open Rack based products in AI, server, storage, network, or power domains.
  • Interface with hardware, power, and other mechanical engineers to understand system architecture and design constraints.
  • Create mechanical design concepts for various products and develop these in 3D CAD.
  • Work across a variety of areas such as mechanism design, sheet metal and plastic part design, design for manufacturing, serviceability, and assembly.
  • Design mechanisms and service touch points to improve installation, serviceability, and ergonomics of the design.
  • Devise and execute experiments for mechanical system optimization.
  • Build and test prototypes using in-house workshop and external suppliers.
  • Validate hardware according to plan while keeping a thorough procedural record.
  • Diagnose and root-cause part, assembly, or design failures with a hands-on approach.

Requirements

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with Pro/Engineer Creo or SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Familiarity with simulation software for FEA or thermal analysis.
  • Troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Familiar with design products utilizing sheet metal and plastic technologies.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, standard machine tools and equipment, or similar.
  • Comfortable disassembling and debugging existing designs to come up with better solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience working on projects in a team environment to drive progress and achieve goals.
  • Familiar with Tolerance Analysis.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with rack mounted computer equipment.
  • Understanding of mechanism design, sheet metal, plastic part design, design for manufacturing, serviceability, and/or assembly.
  • Familiar with Tolerance Analysis.
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.

Benefits

  • Compensation of $11,134/month + benefits.
