About the position

The Mechanical Engineer - Lethality Hardware position involves designing, developing, simulating, analyzing, and releasing mechanical components and subsystems for military electro-optical products. The role focuses on creating precise optical element mountings, developing electro-mechanical mechanisms for sighting systems, and ensuring compliance with vehicle performance requirements. The engineer will lead projects, conduct material analysis, and support prototype and production vehicle builds while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, simulate, analyze, and release mechanical components and subsystems for military electro-optical products.
  • Develop and analyze component designs and mounting provisions for various devices.
  • Focus on mounting precise optical elements and subassemblies, and developing electro-mechanical mechanisms used in sighting systems.
  • Conduct material selection/analysis and finish for commercial and military electro-optical system components.
  • Lead various projects by conducting and overseeing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, and generating source data for engineering changes.
  • Participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
  • Provide support to prototype and production vehicle builds and develop technical corrective action formulations.
  • Develop and present design concepts and program status to functional and program management.
  • Perform testing and evaluation of electro-optical components in the Electro-Optics Lab.
  • Support business development activities and ensure commonality on Sights and Electro-Optics hardware across product lines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; advanced degree highly desired.
  • 8 years of relevant experience in sights and electro-optics; less experience considered with an advanced degree.
  • Experience working on cross-functional projects and in a shop environment.
  • Strong communication skills across various disciplines and functional organizations.
  • Experience with military vehicles or heavy vehicle platforms and industrial applications of electro-optics.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers in developing and analyzing sights and electro-optical subsystems.
  • Solid modeling experience with NX and Creo, and fluency with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.
  • Experience working with suppliers and developing and auditing test requirements.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.

  • Experience with mentoring younger personnel.
  • Ability to climb into military vehicles.
  • Experience with Independent Research and Development (IRAD) efforts.
