The National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) is seeking a dynamic mechanical engineer to contribute to the design of groundbreaking robotics systems. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of robotic systems, applying solid mechanical engineering principles and practices. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the candidate will be expected to approach problem-solving with an open mind, eager to tackle challenges and learn new domain-specific knowledge. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex electromechanical systems, contributing to innovative solutions that address real-world challenges in various sectors such as agriculture, mining, defense, energy, and manufacturing. In this role, you will perform research, design, develop, and test complex electromechanical systems for robotic applications. You will apply the engineering design process from conceptualization to prototype development and validation, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and requirements. The position involves modeling, analysis, and simulation of electromechanical systems, as well as developing CAD models and drawings of electromechanical assemblies and systems. Light fabrication, subsystem assembly, and integration of subsystems will also be part of your responsibilities, along with formulating and performing electromechanical system tests. You will document analyses, design, and build test reports, and may be required to travel to support field experiments and off-site test programs. Interaction with customers and collaboration with subcontractors and vendors of technology will be essential, as well as performing other duties as assigned.
