About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position at Orbital Engineering focuses on supporting Natural Gas Transmission and Station Design projects. The role involves collaborating with business partners to enhance industry infrastructure, executing design activities, and leading project teams. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with engineering standards and providing technical support to clients while managing project budgets and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Execute design activities for assigned projects, both independently and as a project team leader.
  • Function as Project Lead on specific projects, organizing and directing engineers, designers, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare, review, and check designs, drawings, and project documents related to mechanical engineering.
  • Utilize client proprietary software for engineering design workflow and facilitate new attachment permitting processes.
  • Act as the main point of contact for designated clients, providing regular project updates.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards and specifications for projects.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines.
  • Manage and evaluate change orders and scope deviations for projects.
  • Communicate frequently with clients to determine cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Provide documentation and support to accounting functions to ensure projects remain on budget.
  • Assist in developing standards and procedures for technical work within the department.
  • Support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.
  • Compile capital work order/job order packets and prepare budget estimates.
  • Act as a liaison to government officials regarding design projects.
  • Implement safe and efficient engineering designs that comply with applicable codes and standards.
  • Maintain consistent communication with key stakeholders and business partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Surveying, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with natural gas transmission and station design.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Project Management Training and/or PMP Certification is a plus.
  • Experience managing multiple field-based team members with competing priorities.
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material management.
  • Ability to read and understand construction schedules and engineering drawings/schematics.
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organization skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining team effectiveness.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Dependable transportation and a valid driver's license with insurance.
  • Familiarity with Safe Work Practices and PPE applications.
