About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer for the Department of Defense, you will serve as an on-site technical expert responsible for the mechanical engineering aspects of various construction, maintenance, and repair programs. Your role will involve a comprehensive range of tasks including the design, layout, specifications writing, estimating, and contract liaison for a diverse array of projects. These projects will encompass new construction, modifications, renovations, relocations, and repairs of mechanical facilities and systems. You will be expected to perform design and engineering for atypical or highly complex assignments on large projects, where the relationships to previous precedents may be obscure and involve conflicting issues. In this position, you will design complete projects and component parts for mechanical installations, ensuring that all mechanical requirements for new construction and proposed equipment installations are thoroughly analyzed. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring that engineering designs meet the necessary standards and specifications, and you will be involved in inspecting engineering projects to ensure conformity with plans and specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical engineering theories, concepts, principles, and methods, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge across all phases of mechanical systems design and computations. You will also be responsible for resolving issues and making recommendations for engineering projects, which will require a high level of competency in project management and effective communication skills. The position may involve a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of approximately 25% of the time, necessitating flexibility and adaptability in your work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site technical expert for mechanical engineering aspects of construction and maintenance programs.
  • Design, layout, and write specifications for a variety of mechanical projects.
  • Estimate project costs and liaise with contracts for mechanical facilities and systems.
  • Perform design and engineering for atypical or highly difficult assignments on large projects.
  • Analyze mechanical requirements for new construction and proposed equipment installations.
  • Inspect engineering projects for conformity with plans and specifications.
  • Review engineering drawings, plans, and specifications or cost estimates for engineering projects.
  • Resolve issues and make recommendations for engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • One year of specialized experience in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Valid state Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • Experience in preparing engineering designs and inspecting engineering projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering or related field.
  • Professional registration as an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT).
  • Experience with federal service engineering projects.
