About the position

The Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation role at Black & Veatch involves designing mechanical systems for both Conventional and Renewable Power Generation. This position requires collaboration with various design engineering teams and entails performing comprehensive mechanical system design and analysis. The engineer will function in a senior capacity, managing project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements while actively engaging with clients and coordinating tasks with team members.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems supporting Conventional and Renewable Power Generation.
  • Collaborate with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad.
  • Perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems.
  • Understand client interests and drivers through communication with project leadership.
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on complex projects.
  • Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Manage and adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in Simple and Combined Cycle plant design.
  • Experience with Condensate and Feedwater systems.
  • Knowledge of P&ID development.
  • Familiarity with Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Natural, and/or CO2 gas supply systems.
  • Experience with cooling water systems, including closed cycle systems.
  • Knowledge of High Pressure / Intermediate Pressure / Low / Auxiliary Steam systems.
  • Experience with Instrument and/or Service Air Systems.
  • Familiarity with Demineralized (DM) water supply and make-up systems.
  • Experience with Service and Potable water supply systems.
  • Ability to perform calculations such as pipe sizing, pump sizing, and heat exchanger sizing.
