About the position

The Mechanical Engineer - Senior/Spec/Principal position at Electric Boat involves supporting the design, testing, and construction of various classes of submarines, including the LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, and COLUMBIA classes. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with submarine safety requirements, conducting audits, and overseeing fastener engineering. The position offers flexible work arrangements, allowing for some remote work based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Support design, test, and construction efforts for various submarine classes.
• Ensure compliance with SUBSAFE requirements for all submarine work.
• Conduct internal audits and training related to SUBSAFE.
• Develop Design Review Procedure booklets and class design reports.
• Maintain class SUBSAFE test form certification lists.
• Develop the class submarine sea trial certification booklet and SUBSAFE certification audit plan.
• Review submarine safety certification boundary book and monitor SUBSAFE deviations and waivers.
• Oversee the concept, design, procurement, fabrication, and installation of equipment for underwater shock test vehicles.
• Provide guidance on fastener issues related to design and construction.

Requirements

• BS/MS/Technical degree in mechanical or marine engineering.
• 4+ years of engineering experience.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to climb ladders.
• Willingness to work nights or weekends when needed to support schedules.

Nice-to-haves

• Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
