About the position

Amentum is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV. This position is integral to the facilities engineering group, focusing on a variety of tasks that include performing small-scale design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and collaborating closely with fellow site operations personnel. The role requires a proactive approach to engineering challenges and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet the operational needs of the laboratory. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing a range of design development projects, conducting facility analysis assessments, and preparing detailed project cost estimates. This includes creating comprehensive construction statement of work packages for building equipment replacement, site improvements, and infrastructure enhancements. The engineer will also be tasked with maintaining and producing technical documentation and specifications that are crucial for project execution. In addition to design and documentation responsibilities, the role involves conducting site visits to investigate engineering problems, proposing viable solutions, and providing recommendations based on thorough analysis. The engineer will utilize AutoCAD to develop detailed design drawings in accordance with approved CAD standards and will employ engineering computer scheduling and cost estimating software to effectively plan and manage projects. Regular updates to project tracking spreadsheets will be necessary to ensure all stakeholders are informed of project status. The Mechanical Engineer will also play a key role in liaising with customers at all levels, from initial quotations to final design and testing activities. This includes conducting engineering project meetings, facilitating on-site access for contractors bidding on projects, and ensuring compliance with engineering documentation standards and test procedures. The position requires a strong ability to communicate project details effectively and to collaborate with various teams to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

• Perform and develop a range of design development projects, facility analysis assessments, review tasks, and detailed project cost estimates.
• Develop detailed facility construction statement of work packages for building equipment replacement, site improvements, site infrastructure improvements, etc.
• Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and specifications.
• Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
• Develop detailed AutoCAD design drawings using approved CAD standards.
• Use engineering computer scheduling and cost estimating software to properly plan projects.
• Update project tracking spreadsheets.
• Assist engineering staff in completing facility engineering projects.
• Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
• Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
• Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
• Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
• Facilitate on-site access for contractors bidding on projects and communicate project details effectively.
• Conduct engineering project meetings.

Requirements

• US Citizen
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or similar degree
• 3 years' experience

• PE in Pennsylvania and/or West Virginia preferred.
