About the position

The position involves working seamlessly with the mechanical engineering and CAD teams to evolve new products efficiently, delivering best-in-class product quality, efficiency, and optimized design solutions. The role is responsible for the engineering and development of assigned subsystems and components, coordinating various technical work products such as FEA studies, DFMEA, GD&T, Stack-up analysis, DVP&R, and DFM/DFA deliverables. Additionally, the position requires preparing Statements of Work (SOW) and Statements of Requirements (SOR).

Responsibilities

  • Work with mechanical engineering and CAD teams to evolve new products efficiently.
  • Responsible for engineering and development of assigned subsystems and components.
  • Coordinate FEA studies, DFMEA, GD&T, Stack-up analysis, DVP&R, and DFM/DFA deliverables.
  • Prepare SOW and SOR.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure quality products at reasonable costs.
  • Manage and release structured bill of materials during early stages of product development.
  • Work with program management office, supply chain, purchasing, quality, strategic suppliers, and manufacturing engineering for successful high-volume production.
  • Ensure mechanical design addresses key requirements for production efficiency, serviceability, and recyclability.
  • Support validation teams in test plan reviews to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Assess and benchmark competitive technologies for innovation and performance.
  • Lead teardown and investigations of tested battery packs and prepare teardown reports.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5+ years of mechanical engineering product design; prior battery or HEV design experience highly desired.
  • 3+ years of SolidWorks CAD software experience; experience with other CAD modeling tools can also be considered.
  • Experience in developing metal and plastic parts within high-volume production settings.
  • Knowledge of battery systems related to design, including module and pack enclosures, retention of battery cells, and thermal management.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards for testing and ratings, ingress protection, mechanical vibration and shock, and environmental exposure.
  • Ability to perform design optimization studies with CAE analysts.
  • Design and release experience with disciplined change management experience.
  • Ability to work closely with internal customers and technical experts.
