About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position at SAIC involves supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center's Propulsion Test Facility (NUWC - PTF) in Newport, RI. The role requires collaboration with a team of engineers and technicians to manage projects from concept through to testing and analysis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with customers to define key test requirements and establish supporting test documentation.
  • Lead the testing process from customer concept to post-test analysis.
  • Design and fabricate components and interfaces for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Create Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Test Plans, Integration Plans, Instrumentation Plans, Test Reports, and Procedures.
  • Lead presentations and create slide packages for Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs).
  • Work hands-on with projects and demonstrate enthusiasm for engineering tasks.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and five (5) or more years of experience OR M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and 0 or more years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SECRET level clearance.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, for 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Experience developing bills of material (BOMs) for complex assemblies.
  • Experience creating fabrication drawings with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in technical writing for test documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data acquisition systems.
  • Experience working with and altering templates for 2D drawing creation.
