Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Robotics & Digital Solutions organization, located in Santa Clara, CA. Established in 2020, Johnson & Johnson Robotics integrates several key platforms, including Flexible Robotics (MONARCH), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA), and Digital Solutions. As part of our collaborative and rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cincinnati, and Seattle, you will work on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem aimed at advancing medical professionals' skills and improving patient outcomes. In this position, you will contribute to the development of a complex robotic medical platform, providing a unique opportunity for a self-motivated individual to thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone who is passionate about mechanical design and eager to apply this knowledge to the field of medical robotics. As an experienced professional, you will lead projects, mentor engineers, and communicate effectively within and across teams, showcasing your sophisticated mechanical engineering knowledge to drive projects to completion. Alongside team collaboration, you will also engage in results-oriented individual projects within the realm of medical robotics. Your core responsibilities will include being a member of the Mechanical Engineering R&D team, where you will contribute to the development of a robotic platform for surgical applications. This will involve focusing on large systems, sophisticated actuators, structural designs, instrument manipulators, instrument interfaces, robotic setup joint systems, and electronic packaging. You will need to understand system and subsystem-level requirements and component capabilities to design elegant solutions to complex problems. Additionally, you will design and create electromechanical prototypes to inform and drive design decisions, provide hands-on troubleshooting, and assist in manufacturing to support a rapid development cycle. You will be responsible for creating design solutions that utilize engineering methods with thorough documentation processes and releasing design documentation through an ECO process. The role requires the ability and willingness to work through all phases of product development, from conceptualization to mass production, while being capable of working independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, self-motivation, curiosity, and a commitment to redefining the world of medical robotics.
