About the position

SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Propulsion Test Facility (NUWC - PTF) support team in Newport, RI. This entry-level position offers an opportunity for growth within a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians, focusing on projects from concept and design through fabrication, system integration, and acceptance testing.

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers to define key test requirements and establish supporting test documentation.
• Build test units and support facility integration and testing operations.
• Lead projects throughout the entire testing process from customer concept to post-test analysis.
• Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Test Plans, Integration Plans, Instrumentation Plans, Test Reports, and Procedures.
• Create and present slide packages for Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs).
• Work hands-on with projects when required and manage tasks with minimal oversight.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and five (5) or more years of experience OR M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and 0 or more years of experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain SECRET level clearance.
• Proficiency in CAD software for developing 3D models and 2D drawings, preferably SolidWorks.
• Experience with creating fabrication drawings and using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with changing deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with data acquisition systems.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience developing bills of material (BOMs) for complex assemblies.
