About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position in the Machinery Engineering Division of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING BATH involves providing technical consultative services, reviewing engineering studies, and ensuring compliance with design specifications for naval ships. The role requires evaluating complex engineering data, conducting technical investigations, and preparing various technical documents to support shipbuilding and repair processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consultative services and review engineering studies and design change proposals.
  • Evaluate and approve complex engineering data to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Conduct technical evaluations and investigations into project and process problems during design, construction, and overhaul of naval ships.
  • Check for proper interpretation and application of specification criteria to ensure accurate analyses and recommendations.
  • Prepare correspondence, technical reports, and work instructions as required for project assignments.
  • Review changes to shipbuilding specifications to assess their impact on system design and construction schedules.
  • Provide technical support to Quality Assurance Specialists and Managers as needed.
  • Identify and resolve problems during in-process inspections, tests, and trials.
  • Review construction plans, vendor plans, and technical manuals to ensure compliance with specifications.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have a professional engineering degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or GS-12 level in the Federal service or equivalent in the private sector.
  • Experience in providing engineering guidance in the design, development, or testing of mechanical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
