About the position

The Mechanical Engineer will serve in the Public Works Officer, Facilities ENG & ACQ division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC, focusing on engineering studies and designs for mechanical and utility systems in various construction projects. The role involves utilizing engineering software, preparing scopes of work, and managing large-scale utility construction projects to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering studies of mechanical equipment and services throughout installations to determine capabilities and service effectiveness.
  • Develop engineering designs and plans for mechanical and utility systems as part of complex construction projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and mechanical engineering design/analysis software to produce proposed designs and results of studies.
  • Prepare outlines of services, scopes of work, construction estimates, calculations, and engineering fee estimates for work performed in-house and under Architect-Engineer contracts.
  • Plan, budget, and monitor large scale utility construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable objectives, standards, and requirements.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience conducting engineering studies of mechanical equipment and services.
  • Experience developing engineering designs and plans for mechanical and utility systems.
  • Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD and mechanical engineering design/analysis software.
  • Experience preparing outlines of services, scopes of work, construction estimates, and engineering fee estimates.
  • Experience planning, budgeting, and monitoring large scale utility construction projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences.
