About the position
The Mechanical Engineer position at the Department of the Navy involves serving as a liaison in the Crane Engineering Section of the Waterfront Support Department at the Trident Refit Facility in Kings Bay, GA. The role focuses on providing mechanical engineering support for the design, maintenance, operation, inspection, testing, and alterations of Weight and Material Handling Equipment (WHE/MHE). The engineer will ensure compliance with NAVFAC P-307 guidelines and will be responsible for evaluating and implementing mechanical alterations to existing systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison between the Crane Engineering Branch and other departments.
- Conduct field investigations and accident evaluations related to WHE/MHE systems.
- Design mechanical alterations to existing WHE/MHE systems.
- Review proposed mechanical alterations and engineering reports.
- Ensure the adequacy of design for changes to existing WHE/MHE systems.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
- Experience with mechanical aspects of design, installation, maintenance, operation, alteration, overhaul, and replacement of complex WHE.
- Knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering principles and practices.
Nice-to-haves
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desirable but not mandatory.
