About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position at AtkinsRéalis involves providing engineering design services in the energy and industrial processing sectors. The role is integral to a multi-discipline team working on upgrades to existing facilities and new projects, with opportunities for both in-office and hybrid work schedules. The engineer will report to the Chief Mechanical Engineer and will be responsible for collaborating with clients and colleagues to ensure timely project completion while maintaining a commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Work with multi-discipline team, collaborators, and clients.
  • Proactively obtain needed information and support to complete work on time.
  • Balance workload and priorities across multiple projects with a commitment to safety.
  • Maintain and build strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Perform clear calculations with schematics, references, and assumptions.
  • Size equipment such as pumps, tanks, non-fired pressure vessels, compressors, boilers, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Calculate pipe sizes for compressible and incompressible flows.
  • Coordinate questions to/from equipment suppliers and review submittal documents.
  • Potentially travel infrequently to project sites, other offices, or manufacturing plants.

Requirements

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering or similar degree from an ABET accredited college.
  • Previous internships or 1-3 years working experience as an engineer.
  • Strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, supportive team player, and good verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid flow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of power plant design.
  • Knowledge of thermal power plant modeling using Theroflex, GT Pro, or Steam Pro software.
  • Basic knowledge of renewable energy and hydrogen gas.
  • Basic knowledge of pipe materials, valves, relief valves, and control valves.
  • FE certification desired.
