About the position

Amentum is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV. This position will play a crucial role in the facilities engineering group, focusing on a variety of tasks that include performing small-scale design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting engineering systems, and collaborating closely with fellow site operations personnel. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all engineering projects meet the required specifications and standards while also providing innovative solutions to complex engineering problems. The Mechanical Engineer will be tasked with developing a range of design development projects and conducting facility analysis assessments. This includes reviewing tasks and creating detailed project cost estimates to ensure that projects are completed within budget. The engineer will also be responsible for developing comprehensive facility construction statements of work packages, which will cover building equipment replacement, site improvements, and site infrastructure enhancements. Additionally, the role requires the production and maintenance of technical documentation and specifications that are essential for project execution. Site visits will be a regular part of the job, where the engineer will investigate engineering problems, propose viable solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations based on their findings. The use of AutoCAD for creating detailed design drawings will be necessary, adhering to approved CAD standards. The engineer will also utilize engineering computer scheduling and cost estimating software to effectively plan and manage projects, ensuring that all project tracking spreadsheets are updated regularly. Collaboration with engineering staff is vital, as the engineer will assist in completing various facility engineering projects. Establishing and maintaining a filing system or databases for tracking project status will be required to ensure efficient project management. The engineer will serve as a direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels, from initial quotations to final design and test activities, ensuring compliance with all requirements and specifications. Conducting engineering project meetings and facilitating on-site access for contractors bidding on projects will also be part of the responsibilities, ensuring clear communication of project details and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and develop a range of design development projects, facility analysis assessments, review tasks, and detailed project cost estimates.
  • Develop detailed facility construction statement of work packages for building equipment replacement, site improvements, site infrastructure improvements, etc.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
  • Develop detailed AutoCAD design drawings using approved CAD standards.
  • Use engineering computer scheduling and cost estimating software to properly plan projects.
  • Update project tracking spreadsheets.
  • Assist engineering staff in completing facility engineering projects.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
  • Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or similar degree
  • 3 years' experience

Nice-to-haves

  • PE in Pennsylvania and/or West Virginia preferred.
