About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position involves working within the Electrical Department to design and implement electrical systems for various projects. The role requires collaboration with engineers, architects, and vendors, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to quality assurance processes. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to professional growth within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Electrical Department leader.
  • Builds trust by proactively meeting commitments, anticipating needs, and resolving issues.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality when required.
  • Prioritizes and meets commitments.
  • Performs CADD drafting or markup CADD drafting under the direction of the project manager or project engineer.
  • Collaborates with engineers, architects, and vendors during data collection and document preparation.
  • Performs analysis and responses to requests for information as required during construction.
  • Resolves code issues when appropriate with officials during the design process.
  • Conducts surveys to gather data needed in design preparation.
  • Prepares preliminary design sketches and engineer-level construction cost estimates for labor, material, and equipment.
  • Prepares designs and specifications, including a complete electrical layout of power devices and equipment and light fixtures under the direction of the project engineer or project manager.
  • Identifies and resolves spatial conflicts between various systems.
  • Keeps the Department leader informed and communicates in a direct professional manner as project assignments require.
  • Proactive, cross-functional team player who plans, coordinates, and suggests design solutions.
  • Learns and follows the company's QA/QC process.
  • Prepares technical reports.
  • Multitasks and provides design support for multiple projects.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and a Professional Engineer in Training license (EIT) is required.
  • Must have the ability for registration in Texas and other states.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain airport and related government facility security badge criteria is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years progressive experience in the MEP design field including the design of lighting systems, power distribution systems, fire alarm systems, voice/data systems, and LEED designs for public and private sector facilities.
  • Experience must include the production of CADD drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (especially Word and Excel) and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Revit MEP and BIM software is a plus.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Effective written communication skills, with clear and concise technical reports and correspondence.
  • Stable career-oriented work history and the desire and commitment to grow with the company over the long term.
  • Must pass standard background check and drug tests before employment.
  • EIT or PE in Texas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Revit MEP and BIM software is a plus.
