Precise Systems seeks a creative, cooperative Mechanical Engineer willing to work in a fast-paced, problem-solving, and highly productive environment. The Mechanical Engineer will work in the office and on field locations to implement, analyze, and improve dissemination of obscurants designs, run and maintain scientific equipment and instrumentation, and conduct laboratory and field experiments. This is a hands-on role designing, testing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical devices. Collaborates with other scientists, engineers, and team members from diverse backgrounds to understand project goals, design and propose technical and engineering solutions, and assist in implementing, troubleshooting, and reviewing experimental and test plans as projects progress.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage projects to ensure performance, schedule, and costs objects are tracked.
  • Perform chemical analysis and physical property testing of materials and products.
  • Research, design, and develop new production processes.
  • Develop CAD design drawing.
  • Coordinate and perform tests.
  • Analyze data to develop conclusions.
  • Communicate results of analysis and research.
  • Familiar with machine shop operations, e.g., mill turret, lathe, drill press, etc.
  • Basic electronic knowledge (hardware & software), data acquisition, power supplies, controllers, etc.
  • Evaluate current processes and develop improvements to safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Create standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and tests.
  • Assist in the establishment of timelines and budgets.
  • Install, maintain, and inspect equipment and facilities.
  • Perform routine calibration and troubleshooting of instruments.
  • Provide training and mentorship to technical staff.

Requirements

  • One to three years' experience in a research, engineering, and field test environment.
  • One to three years' experience in mechanical device design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project).
  • Experience with CAD software.
  • Ability to conduct field trials on rugged terrain and in environmentally challenging environments.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 10% of work schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve highly technical problems.
  • Strong technical writing ability.
  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Direct experience with the use of spreadsheet and database software to compile, analyze, and present data.
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, lean manufacturing).
  • Ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills.
