About the position

Actalent is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a full-time remote opportunity, focusing on power generation systems for hydro power plants and fossil/gas plants. The role involves engineering calculations, stress analysis, hydraulic analysis, and the development of detailed design models, among other responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design criteria and perform calculations on various systems and software packages.
  • Conduct in-depth stress analysis of piping systems and custom components using AutoPIPE, Caesar II, and other software.
  • Perform hydraulic analysis of pump and piping systems using manual methods and software like PipeFLO or Fathom.
  • Aid in the development and presentation of detailed design models using AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Design tanks and vessels according to ASME BPVC and API Standards.
  • Select HVAC equipment and design systems accordingly.
  • Develop specifications and datasheets for major and minor equipment.
  • Perform walkdowns to collect detailed field information related to site configuration and existing equipment.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and design team members on multi-discipline projects.
  • Prepare and complete engineering designs and supporting documentation such as design criteria, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Review and check deliverables and project documents for technical accuracy and coordination.
  • Manage personal task assignments while adhering to project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Assist in resolving construction issues and support design staff in problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in piping and plant design.
  • In-depth working knowledge of power generation mechanical systems including boilers, tanks/vessels, compressors, turbines, and piping systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred but not required.
  • Experience in the pulp and paper industry is relevant.
  • EIT or FE certification highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, NFPA, ANSI, and API.
