About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position at Hitachi Energy involves researching, planning, designing, and developing mechanical products and systems, particularly in the transformer industry. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and factories across the US and Canada, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality project outputs. The engineer will work independently, coach entry-level engineers, and uphold the company's core values of safety and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure on-time delivery of work and projects with high-quality output.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and transformer factories across the US and Canada for assigned projects.
  • Visit factories based on project requirements.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Collect project details and conduct multiple trials for standardization.
  • Coach and train entry-level engineers and interns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BE/B.Tech).
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in the transformer industry, preferably with distribution transformers up to 69kV class.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing processes for 3-phase and single-phase oil-filled distribution transformers.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
  • Familiarity with IEEE/DOE standards.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling and structural analysis of pad-mounted transformers and wound core transformers, including optimization techniques and cost analysis.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of ANSYS for thermal and structural analysis is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coaching and training junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques.
