About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position at Brooks Instrument involves developing high precision mechanical product designs for Temperature Controlled and Ultra High Vacuum equipment. The role encompasses project management, prototype building, and collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure product performance and reliability in critical applications across multiple industries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high precision mechanical product designs for Temperature Controlled and Ultra High Vacuum equipment.
  • Build prototypes and evaluation units.
  • Test equipment as part of the job function.
  • Design machined, molded, welded, etched, stamped, and extruded components.
  • Coordinate with the electrical design group for integrated designs.
  • Design tooling for the assembly of precision components.
  • Document precision metrology, equipment, and machinery designs.
  • Produce detailed drawings and releases through the ECN process.
  • Utilize Solidworks for 3D modeling and large complex assemblies.
  • Create 3D models and draft 2D drawings using standard GD&T practices.
  • Manage design verification and validation testing of new designs.
  • Assist operations with equipment setup and validation.
  • Modify existing designs to improve performance and manufacturability.
  • Work with Marketing to determine product performance requirements.
  • Implement and validate new designs at global manufacturing sites.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality and safety.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering required; MS in Engineering is a plus.
  • 5-15 years' experience in high precision mechanical design and product development.
  • Expert proficiency in Solidworks is required; other CAD packages may be considered.
  • Experience with OEM Machinery and process equipment utilizing High/Ultra High Vacuum systems.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and electro-mechanical devices.
  • Ability to design piping and manifolds and reverse engineer P&ID drawings.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and ability to modify and assemble prototypes.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with LabView.
  • Familiarity with agency approvals such as UL, FM, PED, PIP, and REACH/RoHS.
  • Experience with engineering standards such as ASME BPVC and SEMI.
  • Solidworks certifications and training.
