About the position

The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop, and improve products in the energy management industry, focusing on alternative parts, methods, and materials. The role involves working in small, cross-functional teams to explore innovative solutions and apply engineering principles to solve design problems.

Responsibilities

  • Takes responsibility for design projects under supervision of an engineering manager or a senior design engineer.
  • Prepares basic design layouts, sketches, diagrams, and graphic analysis from an overall conceptual approach.
  • Develops innovative solutions and justifies designs through scientific evidence.
  • Recognizes and defines design problems and recommends alternate solutions.
  • Applies knowledge of mechanics, electricity and circuits, materials, and mass production methods to solve design problems.
  • Solves problems of fit, space-use, tolerances, assembly sequence, and interferences according to accepted practices.
  • Collaborates with designers, engineers, and cross-functional groups.
  • Works with model makers to produce prototypes and/or samples for testing and evaluation.
  • Assists in identifying and resolving problems during tooling, pilot run, and first production.
  • Makes necessary changes to update products to new customer specifications or recommendations from other departments.
  • Communicates with Engineering, Model Shop, Quality Assurance, Tooling, Marketing/Sales, and Manufacturing personnel as required.
  • Communicates with vendors/partners in support of sourced product efforts.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with three years of design experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Solidworks and typical office software.
  • Experience with lifecycle management software is a plus.
  • Design experience in materials selection, evaluation, and specification, injection molding, sheet-metal, mechanisms, gears, and electro-mechanical systems is preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively in a technical environment, both written and orally.
