About the position

Mastech Digital is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our client in the Construction & Engineering domain. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Charlotte, North Carolina, with an immediate start date. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of systems and equipment associated with the design and construction of Direct Reduction plants and new technology initiatives. The role requires at least 0-1 year of experience in mechanical engineering, and the successful candidate will work under the guidance of a Senior Mechanical Engineer when necessary. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will perform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations fundamental to Mechanical Engineering. Responsibilities include sketching conceptual designs and transferring ideas to designers for the development of mechanical drawings. The engineer will provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, and Purchasing departments by reviewing vendor submittals and conducting on-site inspections of mechanical equipment. Additionally, the engineer will analyze designed and vendor-supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes and standards, and project requirements. The position also involves checking drawings and drafting for adherence to designs, reviewing designs, and assisting Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve existing or proposed designs. The Mechanical Engineer will travel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data, and interact with plant and fabricator personnel, performing on-site inspections to gain valuable experience for design considerations. The role requires writing Technical Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, and procurement, and working collaboratively with all company departments and employees on assignments. The engineer will coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and clients, proposing and designing equipment improvements as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Perform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations basic to Mechanical Engineering with direction from a Senior Mechanical Engineer, if necessary.
  • Sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings.
  • Provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment.
  • Provide direction and technical support for designers.
  • Analyze designed and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes and standards, and project requirements.
  • Check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.
  • Review designs and assist Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.
  • Travel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations.
  • Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions.
  • Write Technical Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc.
  • Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments.
  • Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
  • Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and Clients.
  • Propose and design equipment design improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree; Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology Degree.
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and delivery deadlines.
  • Excellent base of mechanical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes.

  • Specification, startup, and troubleshooting of water pump systems.
