About the position

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Manufacturing Engineering Division of the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center, you will play a crucial role in the development and execution of action plans aimed at resolving complex engineering problems. Your responsibilities will include the creation of new guidelines and schematics based on thorough analysis and testing of parts and equipment. You will maintain a close working relationship with production personnel to address and resolve technical issues that arise during the production phase. Additionally, you will provide engineering direction, which encompasses the preparation, review, and approval of technical work documents and administrative documents that support propulsor manufacturing processes and procedures. This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute action plans to resolve complex engineering problems.
  • Create new guidelines and schematics based on analysis and testing of parts and equipment.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with production personnel to resolve technical problems during production.
  • Provide engineering direction, including preparation, review, and approval of technical work documents and administrative documents.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating the review of geometry data provided by design agents and outside contractors.
  • Experience with the development of geometry data for complex NFPC products.
  • Experience coordinating with government and private contractors to address technical issues and meet project objectives and schedules.
  • Experience preparing detailed cost estimates for project funding.
  • Experience preparing detailed schedule estimates for complex machining and assembly operations.
  • Experience evaluating design objectives and performing complex technical evaluations.
  • Experience providing technical guidance to lower grade engineers and technicians.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
