About the position
The HGS Mechanical Engineering team at Collins Aerospace is seeking a co-op engineering student to assist in the design, analysis, testing, and documentation of hardware for electronic, electromechanical, and optical products. This role involves working under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure product safety and compliance with aviation standards, while also providing opportunities for hands-on experience and skill development in mechanical engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, test, and document hardware under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Perform tasks within a process-oriented development system.
- Generate and present clear and concise task status presentations to team members.
- Create and present clear and concise technical descriptions to team members.
- Complete designs that meet documented hardware requirements.
- Optimize designs for weight, volume, cost, and manufacturability while meeting structural, thermal, and other requirements.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. Person status (citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee/asylee status).
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with FEA software package (ANSYS preferred).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD solid modeling software (SolidWorks and/or UG NX preferred).
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.
- Basic understanding of stress and strain theory.
- Experience with static structural, dynamic structural, and thermal analysis techniques.
