About the position

The Mechanical Engineering Co-Op/Intern position at Johnson Controls offers an opportunity for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering to gain hands-on experience in a professional engineering environment. The role focuses on supporting various engineering activities within the compressor engineering department, particularly related to large centrifugal compressors for York brand water-cooled chillers. Interns will work closely with engineers and technicians, contributing to testing, data analysis, and project assistance while adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Follow compressor testing procedures and analyze test data.
  • Create reports based on test results.
  • Take direction from the engineering manager and engineers.
  • Provide guidance to test operators and interface with compressor technicians.
  • Understand and follow all relevant safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Create and execute test plans for compressor testing.
  • Edit and maintain work guidelines and instructions for future interns.
  • Assist in various assigned projects within the compressor engineering function as necessary.
  • Present a summary of activities and key learnings to the compressor engineering department at the conclusion of the internship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the area of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude desirable.
  • Familiarity with machine design.
  • Solid knowledge of thermodynamics.
  • U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.
