About the position

The Mechanical Engineering Lead will oversee the design and development of mechanical systems for energy storage devices, ensuring that products meet customer needs and are delivered on time. This role involves leading a team of engineers, interfacing with customers, and managing engineering changes for production products. The position requires a strong focus on collaboration with cross-functional teams and effective communication across various departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical system design of energy storage devices such as Lithium Ion, Sodium Ion, and Super Capacitors.
  • Direct other engineers in sub-system design with minimal oversight.
  • Define mechanical systems that meet structural and thermal requirements and can be manufactured efficiently.
  • Interface directly with OE customers to propose solutions that balance their needs with business and engineering requirements.
  • Review and propose updates to product requirements.
  • Specify and approve complex mechanical components and sub-assemblies created by other engineers.
  • Create, check, and approve 3D CAD and 2D technical drawings of components and assemblies.
  • Support battery system and sub-system design and development with a global team of engineers.
  • Review and approve packaging studies for new product development.
  • Provide input and review FEA and CFD analysis, validation testing, and result interpretation.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) efforts to optimize manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Perform dimensional tolerance stack-ups utilizing GD&T for components and assemblies.
  • Own mechanical engineering documentation including DFMEAs, Evaluations, Test Requests, and Test Reports.
  • Provide mechanical team input for the creation of test plans and testing.
  • Lead component and system cost reduction activities.
  • Participate in team meetings to support program development.
  • Provide input for product quality through APQP.
  • Lead prototype and pre-production assembly builds.
  • Support customer RFI/RFQ efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Experience in plastic part design and knowledge of the injection molding process.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D Modeling & FEA (CAD) and 2D drawing creation.
  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and automotive development tools.
  • Understanding of phase gate product development processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience interfacing directly with OE customers.
  • Manufacturing process knowledge and plant environment experience.
  • Understanding of electrical and thermal engineering.
  • Experience with vehicle level Battery Systems integration.
  • Familiarity with JAMA for requirements management.
  • Experience with SAP document management system related to engineering change and manufacturing bills of materials.
