About the position

The Mechanical Engineering Propulsion Expert at Lockheed Martin Space is responsible for leading design activities related to propulsion systems, including requirements allocation, concept evaluations, and performance analyses. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting launch operations. The position requires a strong background in aerospace engineering and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design activities for propulsion systems including requirements allocation and concept evaluations.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and test facilities for propulsion system components and assemblies.
  • Mentor and train junior propulsion engineers across various programs.
  • Perform independent reviews for propulsion architecture and design solutions.
  • Support launch operations including functional testing of hardware and systems.
  • Develop design solutions for propellant management strategies and ensure requirements are flowed into detailed designs.
  • Support manufacturing and test anomaly investigations.

Requirements

  • Proficient with 1st order analysis in fluids, statics and dynamics, heat transfer/thermal.
  • Expertise in advanced fluids behaviors, including surface tension and slosh.
  • Experience with aerospace flight hardware design, analysis, manufacture, or test and integration.
  • Ability to lead an Integrated Product Team (IPT).
  • Experience working with procurement and outside suppliers, Cost Account Management (CAM) team leadership, and schedule/planning experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and customers simultaneously and independently.
  • Ability to drive hardware production activities through delivery to the program.
  • Willingness to mentor junior engineers.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing advanced technological ideas and guiding their development into a final product.
  • Experience serving as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs.
  • Hardware experience, including design, analysis, assembly, integration and test.
  • Knowledgeable at a systems level in stress, propulsion, harness routing, strength of materials, subcontracts, electrical design/analysis, software, transportation, and launch operations.
  • Experience developing Proposal documents and Basis of Estimates (BOE's).
  • Experience with supply chain management and subcontracts.
  • Experience leading a group or team.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
