About the position

The Mechanical/Engineering Technician will be responsible for assembling and testing innovative thermal and electrical power generators in an engineering laboratory. This role requires strong mechanical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and technicians to solve complex problems related to power systems that utilize novel hydrogen chemistry for high-power-density plasma generation.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, operate, and perform tests on power systems as part of a team.
• Contribute to solutions of any failure mechanisms encountered during testing.
• Utilize hand tools and power tools such as grinders, sanders, drills, and impact wrenches effectively.
• Perform cutting, soldering, and welding of various metals as needed.
• Clean parts and fabricate components into power generators.
• Integrate mechanical, vacuum, electrical, and data acquisition systems in projects.
• Repair, modify, and fabricate sourced parts as necessary.
• Collaborate with engineers, draftsmen, and fabricators to resolve technical issues.
• Document results with detailed reports and communicate component integration challenges.

Requirements

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or a high school diploma with formal education in trades or extensive on-job experience.
• Hands-on mechanical skills and experience in assembly and testing of power systems.
• Proficiency in using various hand and power tools.
• Experience with welding, cleaning parts, and fabricating components.
• Knowledge of vacuum systems, power supplies, and gas flow controls is a plus.
• Ability to perform optical power measurements and plasma product characterizations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in working with machinists, fabricators, and welders.
• Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis techniques.
