Structure Tone is looking to identify a Mechanical Estimator to support our Woodbridge, New Jersey operations. The Mechanical Estimator will assist in the development, creation, and preparation of construction Mechanical/Plumbing cost estimates for a diverse set of projects in the early stages of development and continue to support the project team with updated cost information throughout the Pre-construction phase of the projects. The position will require involvement in several projects simultaneously, ensuring that all estimates are accurate and comprehensive. The responsibilities of the Mechanical Estimator include reviewing plans and MEP drawings, preparing quantity take-offs on assigned projects, and ensuring a complete review of plans and drawings. The estimator will identify items that have been omitted and ensure appropriate accounting in the overall estimate package. Developing and maintaining effective working relationships is crucial, as the estimator will solicit subcontractor bids for assigned projects totaling $50 - $150 million per year, obtaining 3-5 bids for each trade and supplier group. The estimator will also review and analyze bids for conformance to project specifications, price, material quality, insurance, wages, and related items, discussing and resolving any questions with subcontractors. Following approved estimating practices is essential to ensure the most complete estimates and that financial objectives are met. The estimator will maintain current information on trends in and changes to existing construction codes and utilize appropriate software programs to calculate, record, and track estimates. Attendance at client meetings to answer questions and resolve issues regarding pricing and estimates is also part of the role, ensuring client satisfaction throughout the process. Additionally, the Mechanical Estimator will perform change order pricing, conduct site visits, deliver bids, and collaborate with teams on specific bids. Determining material and labor requirements and preparing itemized lists will be necessary, as well as computing cost factors and preparing estimates used for planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness. The estimator will conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions, consulting with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Obtaining support and commitment to the cost estimates is vital, as is organizing and managing a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating. Finally, the estimator will analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies, providing improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs and identifying cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
