About the position

Merrick & Company's High Performance Facilities (HPF) team is seeking an experienced Mechanical Facilities Engineer to provide HVAC and Plumbing design for a wide range of national defense projects. This role is crucial in designing and delivering sustainable solutions that meet Government needs for resiliency, readiness, and reliability. The work directly impacts the operation and efficiency of installations vital to the protection and defense of the United States. The eligible candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Secret to TS SCI with Polygraph clearance. The typical salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $134,000.00, with potential for a signing bonus based on qualifications. As a Mechanical Facilities Engineer III, you will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team of architectural and engineering staff, producing project design packages that include drawings, specifications, and calculations. This position includes a leadership component, where you will be responsible for task assignment and work coordination with engineers, designers, and administrative staff. Periodic travel to other Merrick offices or project site locations, including international travel, may be required. The successful candidate will interface with and present designs to Federal, State, and Local government client contacts. Your project work will encompass planning, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of HVAC and Plumbing design work, including calculations, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and layout of mechanical equipment and associated duct and piping systems. You will also develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions. Evaluating, selecting, and standardizing techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform tasks for projects with less complex features will be part of your responsibilities, as well as collaborating to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments and more complex projects. Additionally, you will perform engineering quality assurance checks of project designs and support new project proposals with mechanical discipline scopes, budget estimates, and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HVAC and Plumbing design for national defense projects.
  • Produce project design packages including drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Coordinate detailed phases of HVAC and Plumbing design work.
  • Develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.
  • Evaluate and select techniques, procedures, and criteria for project tasks.
  • Perform engineering quality assurance checks of project designs.
  • Support new project proposals with mechanical discipline scopes, budget estimates, and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program.
  • Experience in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems design and associated engineering calculations.
  • Experience sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment.
  • Proficient in editing and writing mechanical construction and equipment specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience using HVAC computer load and design programs such as Trane Trace software; knowledge of Revit is strongly preferred; familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards; IMC, IPC, and IBC codes.
  • PE License required.
  • Current passport required.
  • Active Secret clearance required, with eligibility to obtain Top Secret.
