About the position

As a Mechanical Field Engineer at Sundt Construction, Inc., you will be joining a 100% employee-owned contractor that emphasizes a culture of ownership and investment in work. This role is pivotal in assisting the Project Engineer by serving as the technical source of information for various projects. You will be responsible for responding to inquiries regarding drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Additionally, you will assist in writing change orders, Requests for Information (RFIs), meeting minutes, and reviewing submittals. Building and maintaining effective professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers is essential to ensure project success. The position is structured into three levels: Step I for entry-level individuals with minimal experience, Step II for those with two years of experience or involvement in larger projects, and the Senior step for those with over four years of experience or significant project involvement. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining as-built drawings, processing submittals, and ensuring the timely management of project documentation. You will also demonstrate a thorough understanding of the project management plan and the change management process, ensuring that all project scope activities are executed effectively. Safety is a core value at Sundt, and you will be expected to administer the project quality management plan while promoting a culture of safety throughout the project. You may also assist in calculating daily production rates, participate in risk management, and oversee BIM coordination between subcontractors and designers. This role may involve documentation for LEED certification and maintaining accurate quantity logs for cost control. Overall, you will provide essential support to superintendents and assist in resolving field problems as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Project Engineer in developing and maintaining as-built drawings and other work tasks.
  • Reviews and processes submittals, change orders, RFIs, and budget forecasting.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the project management plan and supports its execution.
  • Ensures administration of the project quality management plan and promotes safety culture.
  • May assist in calculating daily production rates and unit costs for self-performed work.
  • Participates in risk management including identification, analysis, response planning, and monitoring.
  • May oversee BIM Coordination between Subcontractors and Designers.
  • May document and submit for LEED Certification and create/update Digital Record Drawings.
  • Maintains accurate quantity logs and reports quantities in compliance with the cost control manual.
  • Provides support to superintendents for the execution of work and assists in resolving field problems.

Requirements

  • Entry-level position that normally requires a four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical/field experience.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
