About the position

The Mechanical Field Engineer role is designed for a mechanical engineer who excels in solving technical challenges while also possessing strong interpersonal skills. This position focuses on producing production models, designing equipment layouts, and managing design processes for new and existing equipment. The engineer will work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure that engineering solutions meet customer needs, while also troubleshooting technical issues and providing guidance throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Produce production models of parts and assemblies for manufacturing.
  • Design equipment and system layouts for sales and complete systems sold to customers.
  • Update or modify existing drawings based on customer-specific requirements.
  • Manage complete design processes for new equipment and specialty equipment.
  • Field questions from vendors, customers, and manufacturing regarding designs.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in overseeing project assignments to the manufacturing and machine shop departments.
  • Maintain new, revised, and existing documents and drawings as per department procedures and PDM systems.
  • Ensure designs meet equipment needs as well as cost efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide guidance to resolve production and design challenges.
  • Collaborate with the sales and project development teams to ensure that engineering solutions meet customer needs.
  • Travel as required for installations, troubleshooting, and pre-engineering assessments.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • EIT is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in equipment manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with conveying systems is a plus.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks CAD modeling, sheet metal, weldments, and drafting.
  • Knowledge of electric drives, electrical sensors, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with fabrication and machining processes such as welding, sheet metal forming, turning, and milling.
  • Familiarity with automated systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASME and Metric standards, and GD&T.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • PDM experience is a plus.
  • FEA experience is preferred.
  • SolidWorks Composer experience desirable.
