About the position

The Mechanical HVAC Engineer position at Industrial Staffing Services Inc dba Equiliem is a hybrid role based in Overland Park, Kansas, requiring US citizenship. This role is designed for a HVAC and plumbing engineer who is eager to work on a diverse array of building configurations. Under general supervision, the engineer will be responsible for performing all aspects of conventional design engineering, analysis, and studies on both new and existing structures. The Mechanical Buildings Design Group is tasked with providing HVAC and plumbing solutions for the company's global projects, and the Mechanical Engineer will play a crucial role in the engineering and design of HVAC and plumbing systems across various facility types. The HVAC Team engages in a variety of design and construction activities, utilizing different project delivery methods, including traditional Design-Bid-Build and alternative conceptual Bid-Build approaches. The facilities involved range from power generation buildings and substations to oil and gas structures, water treatment facilities, and energy storage buildings. The engineer will work on systems related to HVAC and plumbing, covering areas such as power generation halls, administrative offices, warehouses, maintenance workshops, laboratories, chemical storage and handling, electrical distribution centers, and more. In addition to design responsibilities, the role includes conducting studies related to energy audits and efficiency, performing engineering studies, system performance reviews, and energy compliance calculations. The engineer will also be involved in code reviews and applications to ensure facility compliance with relevant standards, as well as applying sustainable design strategies in line with LEED certification requirements. Candidates are expected to have a strong educational background, preferably with an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology, along with a minimum of 11 years of related work experience. The position requires completion of pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of conventional design engineering, analysis, and studies on new and existing structures.
  • Design and provide HVAC and plumbing solutions for global projects.
  • Engage in design and construction activities for various facility types.
  • Utilize project delivery methods including traditional Design-Bid-Build and alternative conceptual Bid-Build.
  • Conduct energy audits and efficiency studies, including system performance reviews and energy compliance calculations.
  • Review facilities for code compliance and apply sustainable design strategies for LEED certification.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • LEED AP certification is required for obtaining LEED's certification for industrial buildings.
  • Extensive experience with large-scale water-cooled chillers is preferred.
  • PE License is preferred.
  • Proficiency in International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes, ASHRAE Handbooks/Standards, ASPE design handbooks, SMACNA Standards, and NFPA standards.
  • Experience with computer-generated HVAC heat loads, energy modeling, and HVAC equipment sizing.
  • Familiarity with technical submittal reviewing processes and bid reviewing processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and Revit 3D Modeling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with sustainable design strategies and LEED certification processes.
  • Familiarity with energy compliance calculations and code review applications.
