About the position

As a Mechanical Integrity Engineer at Amphenol, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development of new products through rigorous testing and analysis of data and designs. This position is integral to the High Speed IO Connector team, which is recognized as a market leader in high-speed, high-bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market. Your responsibilities will include developing new products and processes via mechanical testing and qualification of electrical connectors and components. You will be tasked with creating test sequences and procedures that assess the long-term reliability of electrical connectors, taking into account customer use and application requirements. In this role, you will process and analyze testing results, generating comprehensive reports and presentations for both internal and external customers. You will also support product design efforts through mechanical analysis, which includes tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), materials analysis, and failure analysis. Preparing test samples and requests, designing and fabricating test fixtures, and interfacing with test lab technicians will be part of your daily activities. Collaboration with internal and external suppliers and manufacturing personnel is essential, as you will support the development and validation of product prototypes through pilot production and engage with beta-site customers. This position is located in Markham, ON, and is pivotal in ensuring that Amphenol's products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability, thereby enabling the electronics revolution and supporting major Tier 1 OEMs globally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lead support in the development of new products through testing and analysis of data and designs.
  • Develop new products and processes via mechanical testing and qualification of electrical connectors and components.
  • Create test sequences and procedures to determine the long-term reliability of electrical connectors based on customer use and application requirements.
  • Process and analyze testing results, creating reports and presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Support product design efforts in mechanical analysis, including tolerance analysis, FEA, materials analysis, and failure analysis.
  • Prepare test samples and test requests, design and fabricate test fixtures, and interface with test lab technicians.
  • Collaborate with internal and external suppliers and manufacturing personnel to support the development and validation of product prototypes through pilot production.
  • Interface with beta-site customers.

Requirements

  • MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 5 - 10 years of experience.
  • Experience with solid modeling tools such as Pro/E and/or Solidworks.
  • Experience with data analysis software, with proficiency in MS Excel and Minitab being a plus.
  • Experience developing test plans for mechanical and environmental stresses of I/O connectors; ESD testing experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis tools, with ANSYS experience being desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Desire to create and design new products and processes.
  • Knowledge of copper alloys and high-performance engineering thermoplastics is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of electrical connectors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data analysis software, MS Excel, Minitab would be a plus.
  • Experience developing test plans for mechanical and environmental stresses of I/O connectors, ESD testing would be a plus.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools desirable, ANSYS experience would be a plus.
