About the position

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer position at ExxonMobil is a technical role focused on fixed equipment within a petrochemical facility. The engineer will provide technical support, manage risk-based inspection programs, troubleshoot issues, and select appropriate technologies to enhance asset performance. This role emphasizes mentorship and development of junior engineers while ensuring compliance with industry standards and ExxonMobil practices.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
  • Help prioritize workload for junior engineers.
  • Develop and implement fixed equipment repair plans, rerates, and modifications, including calculations and drawings.
  • Participate in Equipment Materials Selection & Upgrades and provide welding support.
  • Drive long-term reliability and risk-based life assessments for fixed equipment.
  • Perform Level 1 and 2 Fitness for Service per API 579.
  • Provide engineering support to maintenance for repairs or improvements in Fixed Equipment.
  • Assist API Inspectors in reviewing inspection plans and reports on Fixed Equipment.
  • Make recommendations based on inspection findings.
  • Contribute to the development of Annual Maintenance and Turn Around work lists.
  • Lead mechanical integrity engineering for complex outages and turnarounds.
  • Ensure all technical recommendations adhere to sound engineering practices and ExxonMobil standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science from a recognized university.
  • More than five years of experience as a fixed equipment mechanical engineer or materials engineer in a refinery or chemical plant.
  • Demonstrated work experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME Sec VIII, B31.3, API 510, 570, 579).
  • Familiarity with API 581 and API 571.
  • Experience with fixed equipment design software (Caesar II, PV Elite, Compress, Sage+).
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy and corrosion associated with refinery/petrochemical processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
