About the position

As a Mechanical Intern Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will have the opportunity to apply your classroom-learned skills to a program that supports the defense of our country. This internship is designed for students who are currently enrolled in an accredited degree program in fields such as Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related scientific or technical disciplines, preferably at the sophomore level or higher. The position is based at our Kings Bay, GA facility and is 100% on-site, providing a unique opportunity to work closely with esteemed customers on projects that are critical to national security missions. In this role, you will collaborate with technical teams on various projects that are integral to our core mission. You will enhance your skill set by working alongside a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues, all while receiving a competitive wage. The internship will allow you to engage in engineering activities such as designing, testing, installation, modification, fabrication, and assembly of electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, and specialized test equipment. You will also interpret complex engineering drawings, perform system-level troubleshooting, and work from schematics and diagrams to conduct testing and troubleshooting functions. Responsibilities

  • Apply classroom-learned skills to support defense programs.
  • Work on projects that support national security missions.
  • Collaborate with technical teams on various engineering projects.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Perform system-level troubleshooting to component level.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, and written descriptions to perform testing and troubleshooting functions.
  • Lay out, build, calibrate, adjust, install, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Preference for candidates with a standing of sophomore or higher.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for a controlled billet in accordance with DoD Instruction 5210.42 Personnel Reliability Program (PRP).
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
