About the position

The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position at Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. is designed to provide engineering expertise aimed at optimizing the utilization of physical assets and technology resources. The primary goal is to manufacture the highest quality products in the most efficient and effective manner, thereby reducing costs and increasing operating profit. The maintenance engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing productivity and reliability while lowering operational costs. This is achieved through the analysis of high-cost and failure-prone assets, collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to develop improvements in procedures or design enhancements. Additionally, the engineer is responsible for sustaining a safe and healthful working environment that complies with environmental, health, and safety regulations as well as company requirements. In this role, the engineer will prepare daily maintenance and production status reports, work overtime as necessary to meet schedules, and minimize unit and equipment outages. They will analyze and troubleshoot daily production, quality, and equipment failures to enhance reliability. Maintaining historical equipment files and providing technical assistance to the production group is also a key responsibility. The engineer will revise preventive maintenance (PM) cycles and predictive maintenance (PDM) frequencies based on abnormal equipment analysis or PM schedules. Furthermore, they will set up spare parts applications for B-1 projects and new equipment, ensuring timely and correct processing of materials and services. The position also involves preparing annual mechanical maintenance budgets, formulating maintenance goals and objectives, and participating in incident investigations as needed. The engineer will actively engage in initiatives like Operation Clean Sweep, ensuring that employees are aware of and accountable for pellet loss prevention, containment, cleanup, and disposal. Maintaining equipment to eliminate environmental emissions and unscheduled shutdowns is critical, with the aim of achieving zero non-conformances and emissions. Compliance with all company safety, health, and security programs is mandatory, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in required areas. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of daily maintenance and production status reports.
  • Work overtime when required to meet schedule and minimize unit and equipment outages.
  • Analyze / Troubleshoot daily production, quality, and equipment failures to increase reliability.
  • Maintain historical equipment files and provide technical assistance to the production group.
  • Revise PM cycles & PDM frequencies according to abnormal equipment analysis or PM schedules.
  • Set up spare parts application (SSA) for B-1 projects and new equipment.
  • Ensure materials and or services are paid in a timely manner and correctly processed.
  • Prepare annual mechanical maintenance budgets and formulate maintenance goals and objectives.
  • Participate in incident investigations as needed.
  • Be active in Operation Clean Sweep, and ensure employees are aware of and accountable for pellet loss prevention, containment, cleanup, and disposal.
  • Maintain equipment in such a manner as to eliminate environmental emissions, upsets, or unscheduled shutdowns, which will result in zero non-conformances and zero emissions or releases.
  • Assure compliance with all company safety, health, and security programs and practices, including the use of proper PPE in required areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering; other related engineering degree considered.
  • 1-2 years of experience in project and equipment management preferred.
  • Project management and equipment knowledge experience is a plus.
