About the position

As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company, you will play a crucial role in supporting the mission to provide clean energy solutions. This position involves working closely with production planning and operations to ensure the safe manufacture of nuclear fuel for power plants. You will analyze existing systems and processes to identify both value-added and non-value-added activities, addressing design challenges effectively. Your responsibilities will also include evaluating new and existing processes, equipment, and materials, which will serve as inputs for scheduling methods, performance metrics, and financial standards. Upholding the company's reputation is paramount, and you will be expected to deliver innovative solutions while adhering to commitments made to government regulators. In this role, you will identify opportunities to prevent waste and inefficiency during production. You will research and test design ideas to determine their feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies to support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements. Your tasks will include designing and developing robust manufacturing concepts aimed at simplifying and improving processes while ensuring best practices are followed. You will also create and maintain required product specifications, preventative maintenance, and procedures for manufacturing processes. Collaboration with quality engineering will be essential to address materials that deviate from normal manufacturing processes, and you will work with manufacturing areas both upstream and downstream to ensure timely product flow through the manufacturing floor. Tracking Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for your assigned areas and driving changes to improve OEE will be part of your responsibilities, as well as working with area managers to track the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and implement process improvements to eliminate scrap and rework processes.
