About the position

Salas O'Brien's San Jose office is seeking a Mechanical Process Engineer to join our Advanced Technologies Services Group. This role focuses on HVAC design, plumbing, process gas, and fluid projects in existing buildings. The successful candidate will be involved in various projects, including the design and construction administration of clean room HVAC systems, equipment retrofits, HVAC controls integration, and process piping systems. As part of a multi-discipline design team, the Mechanical Engineer will work closely with a highly skilled group of designers dedicated to engineering excellence. This position not only offers significant leadership opportunities but also provides exposure to premier institutional clients. In addition to engineering responsibilities, the role includes business development, marketing, and project management duties, making it a dynamic and multifaceted position.

Responsibilities

  • Design of building mechanical systems, process piping, and industrial facility projects.
  • Prepare design drawings, specifications, reports, and construction document packages utilizing office and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations with software tools.
  • Develop/modify Process Flow and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (PFD and P&ID).
  • Conduct field surveys to document existing conditions.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors for product selections and quotations.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and as-builts.
  • Visit construction sites to monitor progress, conduct punch list walks, perform construction administration site surveys and other duties per contract documents.
  • Work well independently and as part of an experienced team.
  • Receive project assignments from Project Managers, accept direction while following jobsite rules and procedures.
  • May assign duties and schedules, answer questions and provide daily guidance to other team members, i.e., Designers and CAD Technicians.
  • Check all technical work for accuracy.
  • Recognize problems quickly and seek advice from Team Leader or Senior Engineer.
  • Increase technical competency while seeking and executing work in new and evolving market sectors.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience and detailed understanding of ACAD, CAD standards and Revit is a plus.
  • 5-10 years of design/engineering experience in HVAC, chilled water, process/compressed gasses, and general understanding of basic industrial processes.

Nice-to-haves
