About the position

The Mechanical Project Lead is responsible for ensuring successful project delivery within the oil and gas industry, primarily working at construction sites. This role involves overseeing site activities, managing contractors, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate with various stakeholders and ensure project objectives are met efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the company's SPIRIT values as a Safety Leader.
  • Ensure quality adherence to industry standards, federal and local regulations, and company specifications.
  • Manage incident reporting and site safety.
  • Act as an authorized permit writer for execution of all permit activities.
  • Oversee civil, structural, and mechanical installations according to IFC drawings.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors to maximize project installation efficiency.
  • Hold contractors accountable to their HSE Management System.
  • Mentor crews on hazard identification and safety practices.
  • Interface with Capital Projects, vendors, and operations for aligned communications.
  • Verify contractor's work scope plan and schedule using defined processes.
  • Support engineering turnover of executable IFC plans by P&ID and constructability.
  • Complete documentation in the Work Pack for project completion/PSSR.
  • Support Project Engineering with Redlines and As-Builts development.
  • Approve contractors' pre-commissioning ITP/ITRs and lead walkdowns with operations.
  • Execute and approve Project Lead ITP Hold Points.
  • Lead site quality assurance/quality control programs and seek assistance from QA as needed.
  • Review Contractor Variation Requests and manage pre-commissioning and PSSR sign-offs for handover to operations.
  • Provide daily reporting on project progress, threats, and equipment status.
  • Develop and implement recovery plans to address schedule delays.
  • Generate weekly progress reports with contractor look-ahead plans.
  • Effectively manage multiple project sites and contractors.
  • Manage contractor HSE and quality programs onsite.
  • Document project progress and participate in after-action reviews for best practices.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry, or 5 years with a relevant 4-year bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of management experience with site construction crews in the oil and gas industry.
  • Advanced proficiency with P&ID and Isometrics drawings.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds and performing work in outdoor elements.
  • Strong communication skills to protect people and the environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of industrial construction experience.
  • 5+ years of project management experience.
  • NDE certification, Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or related API certification.
  • Former hands-on construction trade experience in the Industrial/Oil & Gas industry.
