About the position

As a Mechanical Quality Inspection Technician 4 at MKS Instruments, you will play a crucial role in our fast-paced inspection department. This position involves leading the QA inspection team, developing inspection approaches and methods for new products, standardizing and documenting practices, and enhancing the skills of the inspection team. You will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical components meet the required quality standards, which is essential for our operations in the semiconductor and vacuum industry. Reporting to the Sr Manager of Quality Engineering, you will be at the forefront of maintaining and improving our quality assurance processes. In this role, you will develop and document best practice methods for the inspection of parts, conduct inspections based on mechanical drawings, and create quality control plans while documenting results meticulously. You will coordinate and participate in the activities of the QA inspection team, focusing specifically on the mechanical inspection of machined components, weldments, heaters, and assemblies. Your planning skills will be essential as you prepare documentation to support first article inspections and manage the collection and disposition of nonconforming materials. Additionally, you will audit internal processes and product manufacturing to ensure conformance to requirements. Close collaboration with engineering and production teams will be necessary, as you will provide technical feedback on manufactured products and drawings. You will also generate Engineering Change Requests to address any drawing issues identified during inspections. A significant part of your role will involve training others in inspection techniques, developing team members' skills, identifying opportunities for improvement, and working towards standardization of practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document best practice methods for inspection of parts.
  • Conduct inspections to mechanical drawings and create quality control plans.
  • Coordinate and participate in the activities of the QA inspection team.
  • Plan inspection activities and prepare documentation for first article inspections.
  • Collect and dispose of nonconforming materials.
  • Audit internal processes and product manufacturing for conformance to requirements.
  • Work closely with engineering and production to provide technical feedback on manufactured products and drawings.
  • Generate Engineering Change Requests to correct drawing issues noted during inspection.
  • Train others in inspection techniques and develop team members' skills.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and work towards standardization.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of mechanical inspection experience, with a solid understanding of machined and welded components.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience using a wide range of mechanical inspection tools and methods.
  • Ability to perform open set-up surface plate inspections and CMM operation (Hexagon and Keyence preferred).
  • Strong data collection and analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and remain organized and flexible.
  • High attention to detail and a passion for quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
