About the position

IMI Industrial Services Group is seeking a full-time LOCAL Draftsman for the Athens, GA area. This position is crucial for the preparation of mechanical and structural designs that facilitate the construction of industrial and commercial projects. The Draftsman will utilize CAD software to create detailed designs and drawings that will be used by fabricators and other stakeholders in the construction process. The role involves collaborating with Project Managers, Estimators, Fabricators, and Erectors to ensure that mechanical systems and structures are accurately represented in the designs. The Draftsman will also be responsible for preparing detail drawings for client approval, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and requirements. In this role, the Draftsman will analyze design requirements and recommend changes that enhance efficiency and value. They will create bills of materials to assist in accurate cost estimation and will work closely with outside architects, engineers, and other detailers as needed. Coordination with sales and production departments is essential to ensure that projects are executed smoothly. Additionally, the Draftsman will check the drawings of other draftsmen to minimize errors and provide timely responses to inquiries from purchasing, production, and installation teams. This position requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize CAD software to prepare detail designs of mechanical systems and structural assemblies.
  • Analyze design requirements and recommend changes that result in a more efficient design or offer a better value.
  • Create bills of materials to accurately estimate cost.
  • Work with outside architects, engineers, and other detailers as necessary.
  • Coordinate projects with sales and production departments.
  • Check drawings of other draftsmen to minimize risk of error.
  • Provide timely responses to inquiries from purchasing, production, and installation teams.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an accredited university or technical school specializing in mechanical or structural design.
  • Demonstrated mechanical design and/or structural detailing experience with SolidWorks is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent CAD skills and proficiency using software designed for use in detailing.
  • Proven work history on miscellaneous metal detailing.
  • Outstanding ability to read and understand construction specifications and drawings.
  • Proven understanding of both fabrication and installation.
  • Computer experience, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
