About the position

The Mechanical Supervisor at Norfolk Southern Corp is responsible for providing first-line supervision of various craft personnel in mechanical operations, either at a freight car or locomotive repair facility. This role involves overseeing the maintenance, repair, and modification of mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring safety and efficiency in operations, and managing emergency situations as they arise.

Responsibilities

• Supervise various craft personnel on an assigned shift for mechanical operations.
• Oversee the overhaul of diesel locomotives and their electrical and mechanical components at locomotive facilities.
• Manage the repair and modification of business car mechanical and electrical systems at freight car facilities.
• Inspect, service, and repair freight cars as needed.
• Maintain support equipment and shop equipment, including car department tools and dies.
• Handle line-of-road train problems and repairs as necessary.
• Supervise emergency situations such as derailments, crossing accidents, spillage, or lading problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Engineering Science preferred.
• 1-2 years of job-related experience in a railroad environment.
• Leadership experience with the ability to handle conflict and foster a positive work environment.
• Ability to promote a culture of safety awareness and accident prevention.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TYES.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Some knowledge and maintenance experience of engines and machinery.
