About the position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join the Requirements and Verification team for the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Program. This role is pivotal as we enter a new era of Strategic Weapon Systems, where our mission is to design and build solutions to some of the world's most challenging engineering problems. The FBM team has a rich history of supporting the Navy's mission to provide affordable and credible strategic defense, and we are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the world. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, analyzing, and verifying system-level requirements for the Trident II ballistic missile, also known as the D5LE and D5LE2 missile. You will oversee interface definitions, plan and execute verification processes, and contribute to various development projects under the FBM Program. In this role, you will coordinate with customers and other contractors to execute verification analyses and tests, organize and coordinate the creation and documentation of objective evidence from domain experts, and lead system-level technical reviews. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor early career staff, providing guidance and support as they develop their skills in systems engineering. This position requires a strong background in systems engineering and mechanical engineering, along with demonstrated capabilities in requirements and verification processes. Successful candidates will have a minimum of 9 years of professional experience, with proficiency in systems engineering principles and practices. You will be expected to communicate effectively, explaining complex concepts, leading reviews, and negotiating requirements across functional organizations. Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze, and verify system level requirements and document & manage accordingly.

  • Organize and coordinate system level technical reviews.
  • Mentor the team and provide guidance to early career staff.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Systems Engineering
  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated capability in requirements and verification (including requirement engineering, requirements management, verification)
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Experience leading teams in generation of technical data products
  • Highly effective communication skills, including ability to explain complex concepts, lead reviews, and negotiate requirements
  • Experience integrating across functional organizations.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Project
  • Experience with DOORS or DOORS Next
  • Experience with, or on, the FBM program, working with the Navy, or Submarine exposure is highly desired.
  • Self-starter, able to complete work without appreciable direction.
