About the position

The Mechanics Engineer, Design (NPG) B position at TVA Nuclear involves planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of engineering mechanics work within a major project or a project of moderate scope. The role requires the incumbent to perform work that involves conventional engineering mechanics practices, while also addressing complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and challenging coordination requirements. The position demands a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a solid understanding of related specialties. As a senior engineer in engineering mechanics, the incumbent is expected to demonstrate competency in various functional areas. This includes planning and conducting work that requires independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. The role also involves devising new approaches to problems encountered in the field. The incumbent must possess sufficient professional experience to ensure competence as a fully trained worker. Additionally, the position provides procurement and field engineering support, which includes walk downs, modifications/maintenance, and testing support. The role may involve supervising or coordinating the work of multidiscipline engineers, CAD Technicians, and other technicians who assist in specific assignments. The incumbent will independently perform most assignments with general instructions regarding expected results, while receiving technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and requiring supervisor approval for proposed project plans.
