About the position
The Metropolitan Transit System is seeking a skilled mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical difficulties on City buses, automobiles, trucks, and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered maintenance vehicles. The successful candidate will be responsible for repairing various systems including electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, generators, starters, batteries, hydraulic systems, and high pressure air systems. Additionally, the mechanic will maintain shop equipment and assist in the purchasing of equipment parts and materials. Record keeping and assisting other mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs will also be required. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical difficulties on City buses, automobiles, and trucks.
- Repair electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, generators, starters, batteries, hydraulic systems, and high pressure air systems.
- Maintain shop equipment and assist in purchasing equipment parts and materials.
- Maintain records of repairs and maintenance activities.
- Assist other mechanics in performing mechanical repairs as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air-brake and passenger endorsements.
- Possession of or ability to obtain journey level certification in equipment repair.
- Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines.
- Understanding of airbrake systems, high pressure air and water systems, and hydraulic systems.
