The VCU Laboratory of Mechano-Urology is a joint laboratory at VCU medical center run by PIs Adam Klausner MD, a urologist, Dr. Linda Burkett MD MPH, and John Speich PhD, a mechanical engineer. The focus of the lab is the development of new technologies to improve the way we diagnose and treat overactive bladder and other forms of voiding dysfunction. The current gold standard for evaluation of bladder function is called urodynamics, which is invasive, expensive, poorly reproducible, and prone to artifacts. Therefore, there is a research objective to develop new urodynamic technologies. The team has been funded by multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and has hosted numerous students at all levels of education. This position is open until filled and is a restricted position with no set end date, dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
